Jose Chameleone Names Radio & Weasel As The Musicians Who Pushed Uganda’s Music Industry to Raise Its Game

Jose Chameleone has named the late Mowzey Radio and Weasel as the artists who challenged him and pushed musicians across the country to work harder and produce better music.

Speaking during a TikTok Live session on Wednesday night, Chameleone reflected on the musicians who had given him the toughest competition since 2000, explaining that his musical rivals initially came from outside Uganda before competition within the local industry intensified.

Chameleone singled out Radio and Weasel, popularly known as Goodlyfe, as a force that compelled musicians to return to the studio and improve their sound.

“There’s a time Bobi Wine did ‘Badda’, he was something else and I went back to studio and I did ‘Valu Valu’ and it took over. But the artists that made every artist to go back to studio and make better music were the Goodlyfe, Radio & Weasel,” Chameleone said.

According to Chameleone, Radio and Weasel understood the formula for producing successful music after leaving his camp and went on to establish themselves as some of the most consistent hitmakers in the country.

He noted that the duo would release a song almost every week, maintaining a high level of quality that kept other musicians on their toes.

The singer also revisited his rivalry with the duo, recalling a period when their musical exchanges resulted in songs aimed at each other.

Chameleone said Radio and Weasel released a song titled “Sitani” on a Monday, prompting him to respond with “Bayuda” the following day.

“They released ‘Sitani’ on Monday and on Tuesday I released ‘Bayuda’ and found them in Club Silk and played the song and it triggered them and they left the club,” he recalled.

Despite their past disagreements, Chameleone acknowledged the duo’s remarkable musical output, estimating that they had recorded at least 150 songs.
