Kampala is set to turn up the volume on African music and culture as Vuma Piano brings a premium live music experience to Méstil Gardens on November 7, headlined by South African Grammy-winning artist Zakes Bantwini alongside DJ FKR and some of Uganda’s top DJs.
Positioned as more than just another concert, Vuma Piano is designed as a cultural experience that brings together music, creativity, fashion, storytelling and authentic African energy, giving Kampala’s entertainment lovers an afternoon built for dancing, connection and good memories.
And there is a particularly big reason to get excited about the headline act. Zakes Bantwini is a Grammy winner, having taken home the 2023 Grammy Award for Best Global Music Performance alongside Wouter Kellerman and Nomcebo Zikode for Bayethe.
The South African powerhouse is expected to bring his distinctive blend of Afro-house, electronic sounds and African musical heritage to Kampala, adding an international flavour to an event that is deliberately rooted in African culture.
For Vuma Piano, however, the idea is bigger than putting an international star on a stage.
The experience seeks to create a space where African music meets immersive storytelling and experiential design, allowing audiences to experience the culture around the music rather than simply listen to it. From the sounds and performances to the visual identity and atmosphere, the event promises to make the audience part of the show.
Joining Bantwini will be DJ FKR, with Uganda’s leading DJs adding their own local flavour to the musical feast. The result is expected to be a cross-border celebration of African sound, with South African piano grooves meeting Kampala’s unmistakable party energy.
In true Kampala fashion, the organisers are also making sure the afternoon starts early. The event is scheduled for 2:00pm at Méstil Gardens, creating plenty of time for guests to settle in, soak up the atmosphere and dance their way into the evening.
Tickets are priced at Shs70,000 for early bird, Shs100,000 at the gate, while a table of five costs Shs1.5 million.
The organisers describe Vuma Piano as a premium cultural experience built around community, accessibility and memorable experiences, with a strong emphasis on showcasing African creativity in an environment that feels both elevated and welcoming.
And with a Grammy-winning headliner, DJ FKR, Uganda’s top DJs and an afternoon dedicated to African music, Kampala may want to keep its dancing shoes within easy reach.
After all, this is not the kind of piano recital where anyone is expected to sit quietly.
