Kalifah AgaNaga has questioned the long-term impact of TikTok fame, saying artists who rely solely on the platform may struggle to build sustainable careers in the music industry.

AgaNaga described TikTok as a powerful tool for music promotion but argued that the platform often creates short-lived success rather than genuine fan bases. He noted that many artists who break through on TikTok tend to enjoy one major hit before fading away.
“That’s why you’ll find that every artist from TikTok gets one hit or one season because it’s a wave. TikTok doesn’t create genuine fans because people are looking for views,” AgaNaga said.
He explained that the biggest challenge for TikTok artists comes after their breakthrough, as many struggle to replicate the success of their first viral song because they do not understand what connected with audiences in the first place.
“The problem comes on making the next hit song because you have no idea how the other one broke through,” he added.
AgaNaga, however, acknowledged the importance of TikTok in today’s music industry, saying artists can use the platform as a stepping stone but should work on building their identities beyond social media.
He advised emerging artists to embrace mainstream platforms, including traditional media, where they can connect with audiences and build stronger relationships with fans.
“Go to mainstream, share your story. You’ll find a big artist in TikTok but out here in the real world, they don’t know them,” he said.
According to AgaNaga, creating a lasting music career requires more than viral moments, urging new artists to focus on branding, storytelling, and developing a loyal fan base.
