Argentina struggled to create any real attacking threat for the rest of the match, up against a Spanish side that finished the tournament with one of the best defensive records in World Cup history.
Spain conceded just a single goal in eight matches, setting a new benchmark for a World Cup-winning team.
Under coach Luis de la Fuente, Spain completed a remarkable, unbeaten campaign, eliminating Portugal, Belgium, and France en route to the final before overcoming Argentina to lift the trophy.
The triumph adds the 2026 World Cup to Spain’s recent European Championship success and cements the country’s place among football’s dominant forces.
For Argentina, the defeat brings an end to their bid to defend the title they won in Qatar in 2022.
Despite another memorable tournament from Messi, the defending champions fell just short against a younger, hungrier Spanish side led by stars such as Lamine Yamal, Rodri, and Ferran Torres.
