Ugandan singer Eddy Artens is beginning to attract attention beyond his home country following the success of his 2025 single Nze Naawe, a track that has helped position him among a new wave of East African emerging artists.

Born Jjingo Edward, the 25-year-old musician has been active in Uganda’s music industry since 2021, steadily building a catalogue of songs while navigating one of the region’s most competitive entertainment scenes.
His breakout moment came with Nze Naawe, a love-themed track whose emotional lyrics and simple message of commitment have resonated with listeners across Uganda and parts of East Africa’s digital music audience.
The growing popularity of the song has placed Artens in conversations about upcoming artists seeking regional reach in a music industry increasingly shaped by streaming platforms and cross-border collaborations.
Before his rise in 2025, Artens had released several tracks including Wansubiza, Gwe Abulawo, Sembera, Mpumuza, Mbaala and Call Yo. While these songs helped introduce him to local listeners, none matched the impact of Nze Naawe.
Artens studied in Uganda, attending St. Matia Mulumba Muslim Primary School before proceeding to Wakiso Hill Secondary School for O-Level studies. He later completed his Advanced Level education at Kitebi Senior Secondary School, earning the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE).
Like many young East African artists, he turned to music after school, officially beginning his recording career in 2021. Since then, he has worked independently to grow his presence in a fast-evolving industry where digital platforms now play a major role in artist discovery.
Across East Africa, the music industry has seen a shift as streaming services, TikTok trends, and online radio stations increasingly determine which songs break through to wider audiences. This has created opportunities for emerging artists like Artens to reach listeners beyond traditional borders.
Industry observers note that Uganda remains one of the region’s most influential music hubs, producing artists whose work often spreads into Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, and beyond.
For Artens, the momentum generated by Nze Naawe marks an important step in his career, offering him a platform to build a wider regional audience.
As he continues to release new material, the singer now faces the challenge common to many breakout artists—turning a single successful track into a sustained music career with consistent East African reach.
