The remains of legendary Ugandan musician Prince Paul Kafeero have been exhumed as part of a court-ordered process aimed at resolving a paternity dispute that has remained unsettled for more than two decades.
The exhumation was carried out on Monday morning, June 1, by a team of forensic experts following a court directive. The exercise is intended to determine the validity of claims by more than 20 individuals who allege that the late singer was their biological father.
The development was confirmed by Balaam Barugahara, who described the exercise as a significant step toward ending a family dispute that has persisted for years.
According to Balaam, the exhumation was conducted by a team of pathologists led by Assistant Inspector General of Police Dr Byaruhanga. The team collected DNA samples in accordance with court directives and established forensic procedures.
The samples will now be subjected to scientific analysis by the Government Analytical Laboratory and the Uganda Police Forensic Laboratory. The results are expected to provide conclusive evidence regarding the paternity claims.
Balaam expressed hope that the DNA testing process will finally bring clarity and closure to Kafeero’s family, which has reportedly been divided by the dispute for many years.
“Following the successful exhumation of his remains this morning for DNA sampling, a process that has remained unresolved for over 20 years is finally underway. The family has been engaged in a prolonged dispute over this matter, and today marks a major step toward establishing the truth,” Balaam said.
The outcome of the DNA tests is expected to play a crucial role in settling the long-standing claims and bringing an end to one of the most talked-about family disputes surrounding the late music icon.
