Veteran investigative journalist and media executive Solomon Serwanjja has been elected LC1 chairperson of Bamutakudde Village in Mukono District after edging his closest rival by a single vote in one of the most closely contested Local Council elections. Running as an independent candidate, Serwanjja secured 106 votes to defeat National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Lule Badru Ssozi Kirwana, who garnered 105 votes.
The victory marks a significant transition for Serwanjja, who has built a reputation through investigative journalism and anti corruption reporting. During his campaign, he pledged to champion transparency, accountability, and community driven development under the slogan “Obwerufu n’Enkulakulana” (Transparency and Development).
Following his election, Serwanjja thanked the residents of Bamutakudde for their trust and reaffirmed his commitment to improving service delivery at the grassroots. He outlined plans to promote better infrastructure, strengthen security, improve access to clean water, create opportunities for young people, and ensure transparent management of village resources.
The razor thin result has sparked widespread discussion, serving as a reminder of the importance of every vote in democratic elections. As he begins his five year term, many residents will be watching to see how the celebrated journalist translates his advocacy for accountability into tangible development for the Bamutakudde community.
