Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) Executive Director Nyombi Thembo has singled out singer John Blaq as one of the country’s most unique talents, saying his distinctive voice is what makes him stand out from the crowd.

Speaking in a recent interview, Nyombi revealed that he has been impressed by John Blaq’s deep and powerful voice and even expressed interest in meeting the singer to explore ways of supporting his career. He described the artist’s vocal ability as rare, saying it is one of the qualities that has captured his attention.
“He has a unique voice and I want to meet him and see what we can do for him. His voice is something else,” Nyombi said.
Beyond praising John Blaq, Nyombi used the opportunity to encourage Ugandan musicians to focus on creating their own identities instead of chasing trends. He argued that artists who leave a lasting impact are those who develop unique brands that set them apart from everyone else.
Drawing examples from music legends, Nyombi noted that the late Jimmy Katumba became successful because he introduced a different style of music from the veterans before him. He also pointed to Michael Jackson, whose signature moonwalk dance moves and iconic fashion sense made him instantly recognizable across the world.
“Get your brand and know how to brand yourself, but unfortunately these young artists want to go with trends. Michael Jackson came with his dancing style of backsliding and a unique fashion style,” he said.
