Ugaboys have opened up about why they are not as visible on concert lineups as fans might expect, shedding light on concerns that go far beyond just performance fees.
In a recent interview, the duo explained that their absence from many shows is a deliberate choice rooted in the kind of value event organizers attach to artists.
According to them, it’s not always about how much money is on the table, but rather the overall treatment, respect, and professionalism surrounding the event.
“Sometimes it’s not even about how much money the event organizer is willing to pay, but the value they portray,” they noted.
They pointed out that key elements like stage setup, artist handling, and especially security play a major role in their decision-making process.
The duo expressed discomfort with how some concerts are organized, highlighting situations where safety is compromised.
According to them, certain events are often flooded with unruly groups attached to particular artists, which can create tension and raise serious security concerns.
At the same time, they questioned why performing artists are sometimes made to use the same entrances as fans, despite being booked as talent for the show.
They explained that such arrangements send the wrong message and can feel like a form of disrespect.
“That makes us feel like you’re showing us that we’re not yet there, yet we believe that we are—hence why you’re even paying us to perform at your concert,” they shared.
The duo went on to suggest that some of these practices may not be accidental, hinting that they could be subtle ways of undermining or downplaying certain artists within the industry.
Beyond their personal experience, Uga Boys also took the opportunity to advise fellow musicians to be more intentional about the opportunities they accept.
They emphasized the importance of evaluating every offer critically instead of rushing for visibility or quick money.
“Some of them are for your downfall. Always sit back and think about the gains when one asks you to perform somewhere,” they cautioned.
They further encouraged artists to ask themselves important questions before saying yes to gigs, interviews, or appearances—whether the opportunity aligns with their brand, growth, and long-term goals.
